And that's where a wiring kit like this is gonna come into play. And one of the cool things about this setup, you can have it stored inside, or you can have it mounted down by your hitch on the outside of the vehicle. So right here we have the Curt wiring kit, this one is the Tekonsha, and this one here is the Hopkins kit. While they're all gonna get the job done, all utilize that factory connector plug to, you know, send those signals out to your trailer, there are a few small differences. And if you we're to ask me what one I personally would put on my own vehicle, I would either say the Tekonsha or the Curt, and really, for one big reason, and that's because the length of 4-way flat wiring that you get is nice and long. more

Now, there's a few different reasons why you would want to install a four-pole on the back of your Subaru Crosstrek. Some of those are that you may want to tow a small trailer. Our particular case is that we're going to be adding some accessory lights to the back of the bike rack, because the bikes that the owner of this vehicle has, they block the taillights. So they want to be safe when they're driving. more

Ryan: Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2019 Subaru Crosstrek, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness. So what I really like about this setup is that whenever you're not using it, it's going to be out of sight and out of the elements, but whenever you are ready to use it, it's going to be really easy. Wiring is going to be stored just inside of your hatch. Now, if we just lift up on our floor covering, we can grab our wiring storage. Now, the way this works is you're simply just going to lay the wiring across your threshold pretty much anywhere you want, other than one area, you want to avoid the latch because if the wiring gets caught in it, you could potentially pinch a wire and damage it. more

Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness Installation - 2019 Subaru Crosstrek- Video
Today in our 2019 Subaru Crosstrek, we're going to be installing Hopkins plug-in simple vehicle wiring harness. This four-pole wiring harness is going to provide you with all the necessary lighting you need to haul your trailer. It'll give you your left turn signal, right turn signal, tail lamps and brake lamps, keeping you DOT compliant in all states. The module is pre-installed onto your harness, will protect your vehicle's circuits by shutting down any of your trailer's circuits that may have a short on them, preventing any damage to the vehicle. Located on our four-pole connector here, we have a dust cap to keep out any dirt and debris, ensuring long-lasting operation of our harness.We'll begin our installation at the back of the vehicle. You'll need to access your rear compartment, so we're going to flip this up. more

Speaker 1: Today, in this 2018 Subaru Crosstrek, we'll be having a look at, and showing you how to install, the Hopkins Plug-in Simple Vehicle wiring harness with four-pole flat trailer connector, part number HM11143865.Here's what our wiring looks like installed. You'll notice we have an adequate length wire to secure it to the safety chain loops on our hitch, with the provided dust cover. Once you're ready to tow, you can unclip the dust cover, and hook up to your trailer. This wiring harness is great because it plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring, with no cutting or splicing required, and gives you the basic lighting functions that are required by law in order to safely and legally tow a trailer.Our green wire provides our right-turn signal and right brake light. Our yellow wire provides our left-turn signal and left brake light. Our brown wire is for our tail lights and marker lights. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2018 Subaru Crosstrek- Video
Speaker 1: Today, on our 2018 Subaru Crosstrek, we'll be having a look at and showing you how to install the Tekonsha T-One vehicle wiring-harness with a 4-pole, flat trailer connector, part number 118467.One nice thing about this wiring harness, if we're not using it, we can easily conceal it and store it inside the spare tire compartment of our vehicle. Now when we want to use it, we can grab the wiring harness, pull it out, drape it over our hatch, make sure it's to the side of our latch, and close our hatch down over it, and we have an adequate length of wire to reach down by the receiver of our hitch to hook up to our trailer. Now this wiring harness is great, because it requires no modification of the vehicle in order to install it. It hooks right up to your vehicle's existing, factory-installed, tow-package connector, and provides the necessary lighting functions that are required by law in order for you to safely and legally tow a trailer.This green wire here provides our right turn signal and right brake light. On that circuit, we have 2.1 amps of power output, which is sufficient to tow a trailer that has one incandescent light bulb on that side. If you have LEDs, since they draw less power, you can run a few more light bulbs. more

Part number is 118467. Now this is what our wiring harness is going to look like when we pull it out of the package. It's going to give us our right turning brake, our left turning brake, our running lights, and also our ground for our trailer. Now to do that, we're simply going to plug this in in an already existing port in the back of the Crosstrek. It's going to make it nice and simple. It gets its power from the dedicated power source and it's going to get all of its signals from the lights coming in through here. more
